Sometimes I wonder if the bigger problem isn't English food being bland but more that people's tastes have been oversaturated by things like spicy ingredients, MSG, etc. so that they cannot appreciate more subtle flavors. I obviously wouldn't want to eat English food 24/7 but it most certainly has its place and a proper English breakfast is a great hangover killer.

Just made my first french recipie, a chickhen stew. It was very good as a hearty, medieval vegetable soup type dish. It was better than a Nowegian stew because of it’s flavors (and yes also it’s image, as i did feel fancy eating it) but i can’t say i understand the hype and fanciness around french food. Why are all their resturants all so expensive? Seems like it’s more about exclusivity than the food! Italian food seems better, some fish and chips with a good remoulade can even be just as good if not better. If French food really was worth the hype, they would have high-end AND mid-end spots like indian food does. But i guess there’s not a market for french food compared to other cusines when you take away it’s high prices and prestige. So french cusine should probably be knocked down a peg or two, that’s all im saying.

Austrian here: If you really wanted to get the Viennese vibe, why did you only highlight one of the most touristy of tourist coffee houses in the city? Café Central isn't even that "authentic" - in its present form, it was rebuilt and reopened some 20 years ago and has been in every tourist guidebook since then (more of a Disneyland version of a Viennese Kaffeehaus). It doesn't go a very long way to explaining anything. Just off the top of my head, better places for researching Kaffeehauskultur would have been: Café Eiles, Café Rathaus, Café Goldegg, Café Rüdigerhof, Cafè Raimann, and so many others. Also: A Kaffeehaus is something different from a Starbuck's, and when I go there, my phone is charged (you might as well gripe about there being no charging stations on the tramway which there aren't). Or I carry a power bank along. Also, a lot of Kaffeehäuser offer (free) Wifi. Btw, no one prevents you from looking at your phone in a Kaffeehaus, the newspapers are just additional value (my local phone plan includes 30 per month GB of data service). Oh, and I hate the fake friendly, tip-oriented service culture in the US. Give me a grumpy waiter who will leave me alone and not disturb me every 10 minutes at any time. On the whole: Your research is a bit lazy, your video might have profited from actually talking to some locals.
